A Melancholy Playlist for a Rainy Stretch of Highway

I finished up driving from Detroit, Michigan to sunny Myrtle Beach, South Carolina last night. It’s about a thirteen hour drive.

I love a good, long drive. I get a lot of thinking done, I listen to a lot of music and knock out a few episodes of my favorite podcasts. I also, inevitably, feel a sense of sadness. There’s something about the open road that I find kind of gloomy. Nothing is gloomier than a rainy stretch of highway.

If it’s overcast, then I get the sads. But, sometimes it feels good to be sad for awhile. That’s especially true if I’m on my way to happy (read: an 8 day beach vacation).

But for all of you who aren’t at happy or on your way there, take a little time to enjoy your sadness with this playlist.┬áIt’s the perfect melancholy playlist for a rainy stretch of highway.
